Student Projects - Grade 7

Relief Printmaking

Students express themselves using a linoleum block to experience the relief printmaking process. They use a sports activity as subject matter.

Relief Print          This example was made by my student Jake whom is well known for his ability to break-dance at the school dances so it was natural for him to choose this subject. He combined printing with collage to emphasize the activity. Jake's print of a person break dancing received a Gold Key in the 2006 Scholastic Art Awards in NY.

Students gain an appreciation of this process by also seeing the woodcut by Hokusai called "The Wave". Other printmaking processes are discussed (compared and contrasted) such as the serigraphs done by Andy Warhol.

Ceramic Pottery

Cermaic Pot 1          Students will use the slab and coil methods in creating a functional piece of pottery.

In the seventh grade social studies class students learnCeramic Pot 2 about the Greeks and their culture.

I will show the students how the Greeks made high art from humble clay and gain appreciation for this art form.

ceramic pot 3          The pot used for this example was made by one of my students. Brianna was awarded a Gold Key and a National Scholastic Art Award in New York in June , 2007 for this piece of pottery.

This award was presented to her at Carnegie Hall along with others from all over the USA .What an outstanding honor to put on her resume !
